Vladimir Lakovič, a formally trained painter, carried on the prolific tradition of poetic realism. His motifs include the psychological portrait and poignant compositions which predominantly deal with concentration camps. In his carefully thought-out compositions, he achieved a deeply felt synthesis of the human and artistic experience. Another genre in which Lakovič rose to prominence was book illustration, where he adapted his findings from the art of painting to the specific medium of fluid drawing. His artistic quality was evidenced by his large figural composition for the Trebelno school.
